It is 2016, and despite the global madness and pandemonium, RIO OLYMPICSis going down!
[su_dropcap style=”flat” size=”5″]T[/su_dropcap]he modern Olympic Games or Olympics are the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered to be the world’s foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the summer and Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.
Now enough with the introduction. This year’s Olympic games are going down in Brazil aka Rio Olympics. This sporting event defines, in its thrill, the limits of human endurance, skill, effort and character.
It is in every athletes’ dream to compete at the Olympics; this event gives birth to warriors and new world records. In this event countries showcase the best of their people, this is where actual victory comes from, where people win and lose with honor, so all you heroes and champions queue here, we are headed to Rio!
There is a global adrenalin rush when it comes to the Olympic games, as I write this article, it’s 3 days to the Rio Olympics and there is euphoria and excitement everywhere, who’s gonna win the first Olympic medal? Is Usain Bolt still the fastest man in the world? Will Kenya dominate the tracks once more? There is just so much flying around and that is the spirit of the fire of the Olympics where every nation on earth come together and unite in peace andsport.
I must say, the Olympics, bring out the best of us as a human race, and I believe that this sporting event should be used as a platform to develop global peace .
At the Olympics, third world countries, triumph in various sports over first world countries and no offence is taken, nuclear powers compete and acknowledge defeat without turning to their nuclear warheads while diverse ideologies meet and accept an outcome without a bomb going off.
The Olympics create the foundation where the real heroes and champions of this world are forged.
The spirit of the Olympics should put to a halt to all disputes as men and women of the world converge in Rio, Brazil.
If there is any bone to be picked, I strongly suggest that, everyone take their grudge to the track and fields of Rio and battle it out with honor and pride!
“I call on the world to observe the Olympic Truce by ceasing all hostilities during the Olympic and Paralympics Games 2016 to be held in Rio de Janeiro,” Ban Ki Moon UN Secretary General
You Heard it yourself, even Ban Ki Moon is on my side, I think it’s a good thing that the world is at the precipice again to reveal the heroes and champions that have be working so hard to lift their country’s honor and pride through competitive sports.
One of my best moments of this year’s Olympic sports will be to see the participation of South Sudanese refugees. Yes, there is a team of five athletes though not representing their country but they symbolize to other refugees that they can do something and my prayer is that their participation in the event shall send a positive message to their home country that there is more to life than bullets and guns.
The athletes most of them who fled the war in Sudan about ten years ago, were selected from a series of sports trials held at a Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya last year.
Even Somalia has got two participants carrying the Somalia Flag high, I must say this is a great moment for the world. After a long war Somalia is struggling to establish peace despite repeated attacks from al-shabaab, yet from the ruble emerges Maryan Nuh Muse and Mohamed Daud Mohamed.
The duo will be participating in the track and field races and say they hope to create a personal record even if they do not win! What an attitude to set the pace for the most competitive season of the year!
The male Somali athlete, Kenyan born Mohamed Daud Mohamed is a former football player who now excels in the 5.000 meters. Mayan Nuh Muse will be competing in the 400 meters race and counts on her experience in international youth competitions.
The ‘spirit of Olympics’ has developed an Idea known as ‘Olympism’ yes I know it sounds smart right? Which came from the ‘Olympic Spirit’ whose mission is;
To build a peaceful and better world in the Olympic Spirit which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play — Olympic Spirit strives to inspire and motivate the youth of the world to be the best they can be through educational and entertaining interactive challenges. Olympic Spirit seeks to instill and develop the values and ideals of Olympism in those who visit and to promote tolerance and understanding in these increasingly troubled times in which we live, to make our world a more peaceful place.
The Olympic Spirit: will give Olympic athletes and sports much higher profiles and the increased attention they deserve… People — young and old alike — will be able to experience the sports and the intensity of the competitions personally through interactive exhibits and demonstrations (giving) everyone attending a sincere appreciation for what the athletes experience — and endure.
The description really speaks by itself and I believe that is why we will be heading to Rio, to participate in these sports or witness as the world is brought to a standing ovation applauding our heroes and champions and that in our hearts and mind, we can be inspired and motivated by these athletes to push ourselves to the limit with only three things in our minds; the peace of God, a Gold Medal and a New World record.
So again heroes and champions queue here, we are headed to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games.
